Weekend reading for investors: 28/3/09

By The InvestorJune 7, 2009No Comments

Every week I read a large number of personal finance and investing articles. Here’s my latest weekly shortcut to the best.

As usual I’ve linked to a few great blog reads first, followed by some choice articles from the mainstream media.

Good reads from the financial blogosphere

  • The Oblivious Investor asks if stocks are actually safer than bonds in the long-term? Good graphs!
  • MoneyNing discusses the impending retirement crisis.
  • The Dividend Guy reminds us that investment fees really add up.
  • Trent at The Simple Dollar has written a typically excellent article on the hidden costs of having a job.
  • The Digerati Life explores a new tool from ING enabling you to compare your bank balance with your peers.
  • Frugal Dad admits having kids early had a negative financial impact on his household finances.
  • Oversaving does not lead to happiness, warns J.D. on Get Rich Slowly.

Good articles from other websites and papers

  • The BBC recaps the US plans to reign in Wall Street in layman’s terms.
  • Bank account interest rates are inching upwards in the UK, says the FT.
  • The New York Times ran a heartfelt letter from a departing A.I.G. employee to his CEO.
  • What’s the U.S. stock market got to do with butter production in Bangladesh? Nothing, but this article from CNN in 1998 shows how bogus backtesting can be used to suggest the latter predicted the former. (Thanks Mike).
